1st Corby Glen and South Witham Scout Group

Scout's Summer Camp

" I didn't know you could have this much fun"

Saturday 5 August saw the beginning of Charnwood 2006, Leicestershire’s 6th International Scout and Guide Camp.

Over 3000 Scouts and Guides from around the world spent the week taking part in a range of activities in the picturesque grounds of Whatton House, Leicestershire.

Amongst all these were the Scouts from South Witham .

The event aims to encourage International understanding between young people from different cultures and backgrounds and Scouts and Guides came from as far and wide as Canada, Dubai, England, Germany, Ghana, Guernsey, Isle of Mann, Italy, Kenya, Lesotho, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland, USA and Wales.

Activities included a variety of things from the wacky and wonderful likes of toilet racing, and human table football, to the more traditional Scouting pastimes of abseiling, canoeing and water skiing. The Scouts also spent time at the UK ’s biggest Theme Park, Alton Towers , and at the local water theme park.

Campers were also kept busy with a jam packed day of various activities on the site itself. The huge range of activities on offer included many different crafts, inflatables, backwoods cooking, climbing, crate stacking, Glice skating, high ropes, grass sledging, mind games, dancing, pioneering, laser clay shooting, fencing and many, many more. The novelty of Glice skating was a firm favourite with everyone (even though one Scout from South Witham had a bit of a mishap!), as is the huge range of crafts on offer in the craft tent

Evening activities included a disco, a cinema, live bands, an international showcase, the C Factor competition (just like the X factor!), crafts, campfire and many more.

All the Scouts had a great time and the Troop is already looking forward to next year’s camp!
